How Triple P can benefit your organisation

About us

At Triple P International (TPI), our mission is to strengthen families through a flexible range of positive parenting programs designed to support parents and carers of children aged 0–16.

Based on four decades of ongoing research, the Triple P – Positive Parenting Program was developed in Australia and is now used around the globe. Our programs take a positive, non-judgmental, strengths-based approach to parenting. They offer tools and strategies for parents and carers to build a loving bond and secure attachment with their children, support their healthy development and emotional wellbeing, and respond calmly and consistently when problems happen.

As well as helping families, Triple P programs address broader social and health issues, helping to break intergenerational disadvantage, reduce pressure on waitlists and demand for specialist services, improve youth mental health outcomes and create stronger communities.

Our approach aims to promote the sustainable wellbeing of all families, whether they live in a city or rural or remote area. We also recognise that parents and children may have experienced trauma, with our programs able to benefit all families.

As the world leader in evidence-based parenting programs, Triple P programs have been selected by governments and organisations in over 30 countries to ensure access and support for families across cultures, including First Nations families.

TPI is a Certified B Corporation™ meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

Triple P is ranked by the United Nations as the world’s most extensively researched parenting program with more than 870 trials, studies and published papers, including over 200 Randomised Controlled Trials and more than 430 Evaluation Studies. Worldwide, more than 112,700 practitioners from over 80 countries have participated in Triple P training.

The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program was created by Professor Matt Sanders and colleagues from The University of Queensland’s Parenting and Family Support Centre – a world leader in the development, implementation, evaluation and dissemination of population-based approaches to parenting and family interventions.

Triple P – Backed by research. Proven by parents.

What we do

We work with governments, organisations, service agencies and practitioners to support the implementation of Triple P programs.

For governments, organisations and agencies

  • Hands-on training: Our comprehensive training includes formal accreditation, ongoing support and updated materials to help practitioners effectively embed programs into service delivery. Specific training is also available for early childhood educators (find out more at the PECE website).
  • Implementation support: Work with an Implementation Consultant, First Nations Implementation Consultant or use our self-directed implementation tools to integrate Triple P into your service delivery.
  • Communication support: From integrated marketing communications strategy to localised intervention promotional support, we can help tailor communications to your specific needs.
  • Ongoing program development: We continually offer new programs based on ongoing research and development.
  • Clinical support and professional development: We provide ongoing opportunities for practitioner development via clinical workshops and peer support models.
  • Online parent-direct courses: We provide support to share information about our online parenting programs and can guide organisations to integrate our online programs.

For practitioners

  • Practitioners gain a comprehensive understanding of child development and why behaviours manifest as a call for connection.
  • After accreditation, practitioners are supported to confidently work with parents to guide children towards the skills and behaviours they want to see.
  • Practitioners gain skills in having difficult conversations with parents, motivational coaching for parents and supporting families across cultures, including First Nations families.
  • All Triple P interventions align with the five key principles of a trauma-informed approach: empowerment, choice, collaboration, safety and trustworthiness.

How parents benefit

  • Get the right type and amount of support for their specific needs.
  • Work with practitioners to set achievable goals tailored to their families.
  • Increase self-efficacy to solve problems and enjoy family life more.
  • Learn how to support children’s emotional, social and developmental growth.
  • Confidently respond to their children’s emotions and behaviours and grow closer to their children.
  • Access Triple P programs online when needed at a time and place that suits their schedule to enhance their knowledge and complement their work with practitioners.

How is Triple P different?

1. Builds workforce capacity

Triple P is designed with practitioners in mind, helping them gain skills and knowledge in evidence-based strategies to help children and families from diverse backgrounds, including First Nations families. We offer flexible delivery formats and are multidisciplinary. No matter what your core professional qualification, if you work with families, Triple P can enhance your work.

2. Ongoing clinical and implementation support

We offer pre-accreditation workshops for practical training, clinical support days and telephone support. We also provide access to practitioner resources including manuals, tips sheets, videos and strategic consultation support to optimise delivery in your community. Our wide choice of programs and clinical interventions are designed to address common mental health and wellbeing issues involving children and young people.

3. Cost effective/scalable

The Triple P system has been designed to be offered universally and can go to scale rapidly and cost efficiently. We offer individual (open enrolment) and group (organisational) training that is hands-on, practical and intensive, minimising time away from work.

4. Evaluation and impact measurement

We offer tools for evaluation, including before and after measures to demonstrate impact.

We can help determine the best program for your area

Discover our programs

We offer a flexible range of over 25 programs designed to provide general parenting support or meet specific needs and challenges. Our programs can be adapted for delivery in different contexts whether online, in person or in local communities, and are available in brief or more intensive formats.

For example, health care professionals might be interested in our program for new parents to support the transition to parenthood. Educators might like to host a seminar to support their school community, choosing from a range of topics such as building resilience. Those who work closely with families might find our individual programs helpful in engaging parents to achieve one goal at a time. Or our more intensive programs can be combined with parenting-skills programs to help those with more complex needs.

The diversity and flexibility of Triple P programs enable individuals and organisations to select the interventions best suited to their context.

Our impact

Triple P has the world’s most comprehensive database of parenting research spanning four decades.

Studies show Triple P improves parents' and children’s mental health and wellbeing, and strengthens parents’ use of warm, responsive, positive parenting practices proven to prevent child maltreatment. These result in long-term benefits for families and communities as well as cost savings for society.

The World Health Organization (WHO), in its Violence Prevention Report, named Triple P as one of only two programs with strong evidence for preventing child maltreatment.

Economic benefits

In Australia, studies show the universal rollout of Triple P pays for itself by returning $6 for every $1 invested over four years, increasing to a return of $10 per dollar invested over a lifetime.

Key research studies

Triple P is backed by evidence-based research, a small selection of which includes:

Triple P for Baby – Advancing the Application of Enhanced Baby Triple P Positive Parenting Programme Through an International Collaboration.
Stepping Stones for children with a disability – Reducing child behaviour and emotional difficulties, as well as dysfunctional parenting practices.
Randomized Control Trial of Stepping Stones – Improving child behaviour and parenting outcomes in a mixed-disability group.
Mother and Baby Unit setting – The first trial of a parenting intervention in a Mother and Baby Unit.
Triple P in diverse communities – Parents found strategies highly useful, were very likely to use the strategies, and rated the program materials as very culturally appropriate.
