Mums and dads in Victoria's Latrobe Valley are being offered free Triple P support.

Parents of children aged birth-12 will be able to choose to attend Triple P — Positive Parenting Program seminars and small group programs as one part of a broader $9.9 million Victorian Government initiative.

International parenting expert and Triple P founder Professor Matt Sanders will launch the program locally by presenting free seminars on The Power of Positive Parenting in Warragul and Morwell on July 24, and Sale on July 25.

Parents and carers can email RSVP@triplep.net to register.

Triple P will also train up to 20 maternal and child health nurses, teachers and family support workers to ensure free, evidence-based parenting support continues to be available locally.

Professor Sanders said Triple P makes family life easier by providing parents with effective, easy-to-follow skills and strategies to help raise happy, healthy, resilient children.

“Children raised in a positive parenting environment have better language and social skills, more resilience, experience more positive relationships and have better job and health outcomes. Parents who do Triple P also report feeling less stressed and depressed,” he said.

Minister for Early Childhood Education Jenny Mikakos said all parents could benefit from learning about the lifelong advantages of raising children in a positive parenting environment.

“We know raising a family can be challenging, which is why we’re providing parents with easy access to evidence-based advice and support while their children are in those vital early years,” Minister Mikakos said.

“This initiative is about providing parents with crucial information and support to ensure they’re getting the help they need to give their children a great start to life.”

Professor Sanders said Triple P doesn’t judge parents or tell them how to raise their children, but is about empowering parents to positively manage everyday issues like meal times, bedtime, screen time and working out how to set sensible boundaries.
